I'd rather
not be in the position of profiting by the misfortunes of my country and my
neighbors.
We have resisted the urge to profiteer during this crisis, and I hope that
the website gives balanced advice to all who visit it.
I don't want panic buyers, nor old ladies who live in Iowa to invest their
Social Security in something for which they will have no use (unless they
live down wind from a chemical plant).
A year ago (January
'02), I had to be talked into starting this website, now we average 20,000
hits a day. I do not feel safer today then I did 6 months ago.
My sincere hope is that everything I sell today will go into a closet and
never be used-my greatest fear is that internal (anthrax ,McVey) and
external (OBL) will make what I sell all too relavant to 21st Century
American Life.
Read any Philip K Dick novel or Brunner's 'Stand on Zanzibar' to see what I
fear. (and no, I don't see aliens or believe in Brunner's happy ending for
any African nation)
Safety professionals are bringing (personal preparedness) this to the fore
more and more-the nightclub fires, the PBS special on Dirty Bombs, and the
ever changing traffic control of Terror Alerts. Unfortunately, after the
dust has settled, 6 or 7 years down the road, I foresee an attack that will
eclipse the WTC in ferocity.
I hope that (this being Sunday) that you don't mind if I conclude with a bit
from the prayer of St. Francis; "...Lord, make me a channel of thy peace..."
Now I ain't a religious guy, but that may give you the flavor of how
concerned I am about the threat of increasing terrorism.
Okay, you can come out now, I've put away the soapbox.
