*NOTE
All NIOSH approved particulate respirators will help reduce exposures to
biological aerosols such as B. anthracis, the bacteria that causes anthrax.
However, no safe exposure levels (i.e., the amount you can inhale without
adverse health effects) have been set for biological aerosols, including B.
anthracis. While respirators can reduce exposures they cannot eliminate the
risk of contracting infection, illness, or disease. Currently, there are no
published respirator guidelines for B. anthracis; therefore, it is up to the
employer to select the level of respiratory protection that is appropriate
for their situation.
